Only God Can

Today is one of those crisp days of autumn, a brisk breeze sifting thru golden leaves, an exciting chill in the air. Leaves seem to love autumn. Finally after a long, scalding summer, they're free to dislodge themselves from their tethers sometimes with the help of the breeze or a squirrel scampering through the branches of a swaying cottonwood, a half-eaten apple clamped in its jaws.

No matter the method, the leaves are free! Free to float to the welcoming ground, twisting, spinning with glee as they enjoy flight for the first time. The sight of their journey falling to the base of their home reminds me of an old poem we used to recite in school, Only God Can Make a Tree.
