Voting Makes Me Mad

Sent our mail-in ballots yesterday. It took over an hour to vote and by the time I was done, I was angry. Back in the day after I voted, I'd feel a sense of accomplishment and well-being, secure in the hope that I had voted for the right people and the right proposals. Not anymore. In the last election I voted for a newbie who I was sure would help turn things around here in Colorado. Fresh ideas, common sense, an ordinary citizen who seemed to want to make a good difference. Well, it didn't work out the way I wanted. The legislature passed a law requiring online companies such as Amazon to follow a procedure different from other states so they could collect sales tax from Amazon affiliates. Well, due to the uniqueness of the procedure, Amazon dropped all Colorado affliliates; thereby, leading to many online sales businesses to either move out of state or close up shop.

You know what my legislator said, the one for whom I confidently voted? He said that we should all boycott Amazon. Was he naive or just stupid? Either way his suggestion reminded me of the effect of a flea on an elephant's rump. Nada! Why would Amazon actually care what one state did when they have, not only the rest of the U.S. states, but the world as well doing business with them.

So, you see why voting is no longer a pleasure for me. And this is only one of the reasons. More to come!
